CNN reported today that the biggest crane on the East Coast arrived at the Key Bridge collapse site. When I read this, I thought they meant the Left Coast Lifter - the crane that was involved in the Tappan Zee Bridge project a few years ago. The chance to see that crane is the one thing that might have brought me to the site, to be honest. I wondered how it had gotten here so quickly, but it turns out it's not the Left Coast Lifter. That crane is currently in Staten Island in dry dock at Caddell's Dry Dock and Repair. The crane that arrived today is The Chesapeake 1000. With a lift capacity of 1,000 short tons, this 2,484 GRT crane sits atop a derrick nearby, ready to get to work removing an estimated 4,000 tons of debris.
